Yes, that's true. By recording the commentary audio while we play, and the video footage on film playback, I reduce stuttering caused by I/O problems trying to capture the screen, play the game, and record audio, plus I can record all four angles (two first person cams, two chase cams) without using any compressed video in editing or sending large files over the Internet (Blackstar and I live on opposite side of the globe now, and have for over a decade). Without using a game film, Blackstar would have to capture his footage and send to me; the raw screen captures are between 10-40 Gb, and in AIC crunch down to between 5 and 9 GB. We could get those files smaller if we used h.264, but I'd rather not mix lossy and non-lossy compressed video in the same project. The file size requirement would double if I wanted him to send me chase cam footage as well. By using game films, I record all video footage locally, and only the final project going up to YouTube requires significant bandwidth. I'd love to find someone who could fix the "net game only weapons don't spawn on the first level" bug so I could offer them a bounty.
