I think what you are advocating here is that human weapons act like the Alien weapon in M2/MI, meaning you can pick up another identical weapon but only when your current in inventory weapon is empty. The only difference would be that while the Alien Weapon disappears when it is expended, your empty human weapon would still exist in your inventory, but not be able to be used for anything accept possibly for looking cool for the ladies, or taunting your Pfhor opponents. I agree that not being able to pick up another weapon or use its ammo when your in inventory weapon is empty is nonesense, and would be fine with what you propose, but Perseus also has a point about this being, to paraphrase, not so much a bug fix and more of a weapons system re-imagining or improvement, and if you start too far down this road, where do you stop? With this in mind, I think the simplest thing would be to default to the M2/MI behavior like in beta 2, but it would still be nice to have an improved weapons/inventory behavior, as long as it doesn't break multiplayer (which the bugged M1 TC behavior sort of does).
