I am 'guessing' from your response that you don't really know this level very well.
The trigger for the two door trap is nowhere in the line of sight of the large room. A map editor will show you this.
There is no berserking going on.
There is no 'secondary' corridor use. I would never get caught in a dead end like that. The standard approach to this level, is once you trigger the trap you run back the way you came. Once in open space you can fight better.
You don't need any additional guns to play this level. You have all the guns you need on the level. Indeed Reg, Greg or Jason left you one with a Transparency BCE to get you started. Getting to it is pretty easy if you know the quick shortcut.
