In Response To: Total Carnage bug or feature? (Godot)

: Jason admitted that there was 'problem' in Marathon which allowed the player
: to pick up multiples of the same weapon on Total Carnage but only ever use
: one. If you played below Total Carnage this wouldn't happen.

: What he failed to mention was that there was an even bigger 'problem' if you
: played below Total Carnage.

: Below Total Carnage you can only ever pick up one version of a weapon (except
: the alien weapon and the pistol). You can pick up a second pistol and
: multiple alien weapons once the one you currently have is empty.

: The problem arises when you pick up a weapon (like the AR) and completely
: empty it. While it remains in your weapons inventory you can't use it
: until you find more ammo. Now if you find another AR you can't pick this
: up and exchange it for your empty one nor can you use the ammo it
: contains. It is useless to you except on Total Carnage.

: On Total Carnage you can empty your AR, pick up a second one and use the ammo
: it contains. All very logical, except of course if you happen to pick them
: all up together (which is the problem Jason admitted to).

: How often is this problem likely to occur when playing below Total Carnage.
: Not very often as there is generally enough ammo lying around to feed your
: hungry AR. But on a level like Defend THIS! you can find yourself with no
: AR ammo left, if you head back to the weapons/ammo room near the start
: thinking you can pick up those ARs lying there.. then think again. You're
: screwed.

: Except on Total Carnage.

Since the decision has been made already to not reproduce engine bugs, then this should be (remain) fixed, at least for the TC weapon pick up bug, and I say bug as it has been show to me to have come out of Jason Jones' mouth that it was a bug. Of course, if the decision changes to the goal of fully replicating the Marathon experience, warts and all, then the bug should be faithfully reproduced along with other unpleasantries such as sliding off the moving platform in BobBQ.

All my two-cents, of course. :)
