Actually Greg Kirkpatrick tried to explain this in The Lost Network Packets by saying that this muddling of facts was deliberate. Leela was trying to mislead the Pfhor.

When the Marathon was attacked, Leela began to scramble
and rewrite all of the historical information for mankind.

What better way to do it than by telling the Pfhor that our homeworld was 92 light years away. They'd be looking in the completely wrong place. :)
