Maybe they're fifteen worlds spread out across one part of the edge of the Milky Way? Surely the Vylae would've developed FTL communication by this point. : Also, Durandal says "ruined world" and not "abandoned : world"; it would take more than a few years for a world to fall apart : and decay and be considered "ruined". True. So maybe the Vylae didn't just leave, but were forced out. What could force them out? Maybe Leela hijacked drones or whatever, started a war, and ruined the world, forcing the Vylae out? Who knows. Just saying, there are many ways here by which the world could become 'ruined'. : There's also nothing indicating that the Vylae did in fact abandon anything. : First, there's no reason to assume that Leela's rampancy would make the : Vylae network or any of their worlds useless. Second, it says "the : Vylae have long since accepted", which makes it sound like they've : given up on expunging her from the network, but not that they've abandoned : anything; most likely they've learned to live with her, possibly : symbiotically. And, third, something as major as the Vylae abandoning : every single one of their planets would be something that would've been : mentioned in the M2 epilogue. Maybe they didn't abandon all the worlds, just one or two that were too heavily dependent on the network or got attacked or whatever. : Lastly, Durandal has no reason to visit Leela. He doesn't care about the : other Marathon AIs unless they get in his way; he's perfectly happy : abandoning them. His primary goal is to uncover the secrets of the Jjaro : and escape the closure of the universe. So, most likely the "ruined : world" is one that has some connection to the Jjaro. Good point. However, I can't help but recall what Durandal said on Fatum Iustum Stultorum: I confess that I'm not disappointed by Tycho's fall. After all, we can't have too many meta-stable personality constructs gallivanting about the universe in Pfhor attack ships, can we? Probably just his usual flippant sarcasm. But it still vaguely suggests that he finds other Rampant/Meta-Stable AIs to be competition in his game of escape-the-universe. Competition that he wants gone. Competition that includes Tycho and perhaps even Leela. Thus, he just might be interested in dealing with Leela before she can get to be too dangerous. Who knows. : Interesting speculation, but the ruined world is most likely a Jjaro world of : some sort and not Leela's new home. Yeah, I'm with you on that. Even though it could be [?one of] Leela's new home[s], it's most likely a planet with all kinds of Jjaro stations and artifacts and left-over stuff which Durandal thinks could help him figure out how to escape the universe.
