Questions about Eternal, Where Giants Have Fallen.

Just played through Eternal yet again. Fantastic atmosphere and mood this has, one of the best ever for that. Anyway, on to those questions.
1. I note on the map a blue dot and a red one, off to the left of the building you finally get into. Evidently there is an allied critter of some kind around plus an enemy of some sort; are those just a part of the functioning of the level or is there a way to meet them? I've tried to find a way to get over there to no avail.
2. Is it possible to get the other door open in that final room in this level? The door switch is never powered up and once again I've never managed to change that.
This level can be frustrating if one of the factions fighting turns on you, and occasionally they do. No, I didn't provoke them; I was just watching the battle!
