Wow, why haven't I posted about this here yet? Anyway, Minerva: Metastasis is the most critically acclaimed Single-Player Half Life 2 mod out there (So good it netted the developer, Adam Foster a job at Valve and was made in collaboration with them), and it's story is pretty much a cross over between the Half Life and Marathon universes. Don't believe me?
Exhibit-A: Screenshot from the Half Life 1 prequel to Minerva; Someplace Else: http://www.planetphillip.com/media/2002/oct-02/1024-someplace-else-14.jpg. Should speak for itself.
Exhibit-B: The main protagonist/antagonist of Minerva is a, well:
"I am Hypatia, murdered for her beliefs, discoveries ignored by fools, name stricken from record. I am Joyeuse, an infinitely cutting blade wielded by an ignorant tyrant, for a cultural renaissance based upon military might. I am Athena, hunter and scientist, covertly guiding long-dead warriors for my quiet purposes. And as they say, technology and violence are a girl's best friends; power is eternal delight."
Joyeuse, huh? Sound familiar?
"Joyeuse was the name of Charlemagne's personal sword. The name translates as "joyful". Some legends claim that it was forged to contain the Lance of Longinus within its pommel; others state it was smithed from the same materials as Roland's Durendal and Ogier's Curtana." - Wikipedia
Exhibit C: "Virus checkers
So, yea, if you haven't played it, do it now: https://hylobatidae.org/minerva/phosphenes.shtml! If you don't have Half Life 2, its on sale for like $5.0. Oh, and as Adam Foster works at Valve now, keep an eye out for Marathon references in future Valve games, I'm sure he'll slip one in sometime...
