Selectively quoting from the final screen:

All those quotes put together imply what happens. Then there's Chris Geisel's own comment which makes it clear:
"we thought that my [sic] making you a god [the marathon story] would be sufficently 'ended.' "
Also, Perseus, your ripped-apart-arm interpretation would be correct EXCEPT that the arm isn't being ripped apart. It is growing/being put together. Don't let the blood splatters fool you; blood can be a symbol for life and survival just as much as a symbol for death. And considering that arm is definitely coming together and NOT being ripped apart, that blood probably represents the influx/infusion of life.
