Aye, I took the trouble to read them when the Myth/Black Company connection was first highlighted back in Sept 1997. Indeed, Bungie's love for the Glen Cook books goes back to PID and the saved game called 'ToadKiller Dog'. Doug Zartman later confirmed that this was indeed a Black Company reference. I can only imagine that this was Jason Jones and he steered Bungie on this new course at the end of Marathon 2.

One wonders what would have happened if Bungie had stayed developing 1st person shooters after Marathon 2. That's a timeline worth exploring. ;)
