In Response To: Re: Marathon Hard Core Sounds (President People)

: The Sounds File itself is from Dec 10, 1994 5:31 AM. The ReadMe, entitled
: "Gratuitious README", looks to have been created at 6:11 on the
: same day. Here's the ReadMe in its entirety:
: For all of you who bothered to read this, here's the low down: This sound
: file is chocked full of loud, hard-core, in-your-face, and just plain mean
: sounding clips I assembled together to further amplify the already intense
: Marathon experience. By all means hook your computer up to your stereo and
: recklessly crank the volume to a level that'll get the cops knocking with
: their guns drawn. (Everything sounds like it hurts a lot more now.)

: To get this sucker to work, change your original sound file's name to
: something like Sounds.Orig or whatever. Then change my sound file's name
: to Sounds. It's just that easy. No gluing or tools required.

: These sounds work fine with the Beta and the Demo. (I had problems with the
: Beta before, but everything seems to have ironed itself out. Still, use
: caution.)

: Be sure to look for a fuller version when the release is out.
:

: Till then,

: FRANK
:
: The reason I'm asking is because someone on the Pfhorums was describing in
: this topic an old M1 Sounds file they played years ago, and I said I
: might have it. Mine appeared to be the right one, but he said there were
: some differences, so I was wondering if there was a newer or different
: version.

The Read Me would certainly suggest that a Sounds file was going to be released for the full game. Don't recall if it was. There were certainly a lot of these things floating around at the time. When they were first released they were a novelty, but that novelty quickly wore off when people realized how easy it was to replace the sounds in the Sounds file. You can only take so much of Sim Bobs running up to you saying "Hail to the King, baby". Army of Darkness was one of the more popular sources for sound substitution.

You might be able to find it on some old CD. The one's that came with Mac magazine's are a good bet. Did you try the 2nd Trilogy CD?

Cheers
Hamish
