I took the 2.5 and the 2.0 (no amp) files into Sound Studio, the difference is instnatly clear when you can see the wave form.

(I did normalize the no amp version).
There's a lot more audio data in the 2.0 version. I don't know if that's extra noise from the recording jack, or if it's just how much richer the 2.0 audio is over the 2.5 audio. Either way, it explains why when compressed, the 2.0 version clocks in at 7.4 MB (Apple Lossless for the format at 16 bit) and the 2.5 is 5.1 MB.
