In Response To: Marathon executable architecture (TWF)

: Hi, I suppose you could call me new around here, though I've been reading the
: Story page off and on for the last six years or so, though I've never felt
: the reason to post (especially because I didn't get interested in the
: games' story until the community appeared to have died). It looks like
: it's been revived, though, which I'm immensely glad for. Anyways, after
: playing through M1A1 several times and reading about the differences
: between it and Marathon on this forum, I'd like to try emulating the
: original game. This leads to my question: what architecture were the
: Marathon games written for? We originally played them on our Umax, which
: I'm sure was 68k, but I also played them on our iMac, which was powerPC.
: Did powerPC have 68k emulation? I'm not sure how else that would have
: worked. Does this mean that basilisk II would be a better way to emulate
: them than sheepshaver?

Welcome to the Story forum. :-)

Now I am not going to pretend for a moment that I am in anyway competent to answer your questions. There are much better people around here to do that.

However I can say that Marathon 1 was written for both 68K and PowerPC. You could play the game on both types of Macs. From what I gather Sheepshaver is more commonly used for emulating Marathon.

There is a good guide here
