I believe these rumors stem from Bungie's refiling/renewing of their Marathon trademark along with a new trademark Bungie Aerospace in early 2010. Of course the latter is a cover. Bungie are building a colony ship to escape the inevitable closure on December 21, 2012. They been planning this since the release of Marathon on December 21, 1994. To paraphrase Durandal 'Escape will make them God.'
