question about goal polygons

A question for those with experience:

It's been a long time since I've used Forge, but I've been wanting for a while to be able to make more complicated pathing for monsters using goal polygons (I think that's what they're called if I remember correctly), mostly to try and simulate long term battles without all the teleporting or random placement. Basically, the idea is to try and create an actual front, two sides confronting each other in an area when their paths intersect on the way to their respective goals (and to be able to manipulate it by controlling spawn counts, etc).

This is something I've seen done with varying degrees of success in some scenarios, but using goal polygons to get the results I want is something I've had trouble with in the past. So does anyone know where there are resources or tutorials of some kind that might cover this, or have some info on how to use goals?
