Nah... they're just lightsabers. Well, technically they are artificially generated linear microsingularities or "gravitronic blades" powered by zero-point energy. But yeah, lightsabers.

And I'm glad you like the surprise, uki. I was really hoping that chapter would be a "wtf?" followed by an "ohh!!!".

"Where the hell am I? I don't recognize this architecture. HOLY CRAP BANSHEES? And... a lightsaber!? WHY ARE THERE HEADLESS IN SPACE!?" You haven't gotten to the "ohh!!!" part yet, that's a few levels later. :-D
