A question about Roots and Radicals (SPOILER)

Does the level end differently if you choose to *not* pick up the uplink chip?
(Do you even have a choice? I was wondering if you could potentially destroy the circuits without moving off the platform (and thereby picking up the uplink chip) by using grenades.)
