I respectfully disagree and chalk it up to exactly coincidence. If there is a correlation there, I do not think it was one we were ever meant to make. The language is too dissimilar to show a clear connection and the theme is not really the same. Being "wiped out" is different than going out like a candle.
The other links look like something that may be worth reading, though, so thanks for that. ;)
