: Ooooh.... someone who doesn't know the story yet! Please keep me posted on
: your impressions of it, as everybody else (who cares to) has heard the
: damn thing so many times already, so it's hard to find anyone to give me
: good storyline feedback. :-)

Oh. Well then... you asked for it :p

The Far Side of Nowhere: I get in, begin reading the terminal, get about halfway through, realize this is a really freaking long terminal, but finish it so that I'm not like "WTF IS GOING ON". In retrospect, it might have been easier on the player if you had made that a pseudo-manual thing rather than an in-game terminal... without a sense of when it ends it can be a bit tedious. Then, (since it did say Prologue and there was a MOATerminals just now) I expect it'll just teleport me somewhere or I'll go somewhere nearby to continue. Not so much. Suddenly I find myself in a huge-ass city-thing and get a surge of awe at the scope of it all, even in its barren simplicity. I come to the conclusion this is K'lia. I liked the textures that most people seem to not like... it made me feel desolate (and any bad/wierd textures I may have seen I attributed to the age of Aleph One's graphics). After a long time of wandering exploration I find a ball that claims to be an item (I've noticed there's a section in your inventory for 'balls') but that I can't pick up. After lots more confused exploration I finally figure out where I'm supposed to go, grab my pistol, and head back in time.

Deja Vu All Over Again: I like the name, since I'm back in time, and I liked the return to the Marathon. I was really pissed at the game engine because it was crapping out, freezing between levels, and I almost gave up before I managed to get to DVAOA. I read the terminal, hopped around the corner, and killed my first pfhor, only to discover that EVERY pfhor dropped a staff (I had been playing Evil, where the staff is a weapon but isn't dropped by pfhor). Extremely excited now I ran around getting a feel for the new weapon. I was amazed at how much damage the weapon did, both to me and to everyone else (3 shots'll practically kill you in Normal with 1 layer of shields) but I manage to get through the level soon enough. I loved the chance at fighting a compiler, as in a previous terminal I had read about how they were all dead (and I do love my S'pht).

Septococcal Pfhoryngitis: I had some trouble spelling this when I first saved... thank god I didn't have to type it again. I laughed at the failed teleportation: are the Marathon’s teleporters EVER working? Needless to say I go through the level, find the chip installation port, wonder where the chip was, double back, find the chip, install it, not much to worry about there. Simple level, with some fun combat thrown in.

Dysmentria: I’m in a pfhor ship, I’m fighting pfhor, there’s lots of ammo for all my weapons here. First run-in with the hunters… have I mentioned that I like the way all the enemies look almost new, as if your journey to the future before returning to the Marathon has changed your outlook on these creatures? Anyway, I do lots of exploration, coupled with lots of returning to the central save and 3x shields. After a while I get completely stumped, as my last post mentioned. I’ve explored what I think is all I can (there’s the bars, but I can’t find a way around ‘em) and I must have spent in total at least an hour exploring the ship with my map on over the course of yesterday and today trying to find where I had to go. I finally find the lift in the room that had all those enforcer sentry things that leads me into the room behind the bars. Lots of fun using the staff against an ungodly horde of foes who are below me. I finally find a teleporter and teleport out, wondering where the terminals were that were supposed to tell me what was happening.

Sakhmet Rising: I quickly learn what happened as Tycho explains how terrible Hathor is. I kill people and look around desperately for an air recharger—I’ve always hated vacuum levels—I find it and refill my air and save my game. Then I proceed to find the room with the terminal, and as I am someone who likes to read terminals open it up. Of course I’m not surprised at all that it’s a message from Hathor trying to convince me not to kill her. By now I’ve figured out that this is a level with different storylines—I’ve read some from the pfhorums. I read through most of what she had to say and I bonded with her more than with Tycho—I decided I’d much rather help her than him. But before I could get to the end my oxygen got low and I had to take a quick refill break. I got back and got to the end of the terminal, wondering how I could go with her, when I teleported out. Awesome, I assume I’m with her.

Unwired: I teleport in, realize this is a new level, and I figure this must be the first of the Hathor levels. I round the corner and start killing people, and I quickly discover just how much fun it is to kill people with the staff’s melee. I mean seriously… I could just run by most enemies and whack ‘em and they’d die. Green troopers die in one hit… purple ones get knocked back practically an entire room’s length. Much fun there. I make my way to the save terminal and I …

More to come later :p
