yeah when i play solo i mostly rely on the fusion pistol, it does a good amount of damage, fires fast and gives you a lot for each battery. It wrecks anything mechanical almost twice as fast, and in most solo campaigns you are given more batteries for it than ammo for other weapons. The weapon's drawbacks only really come to the forefront in multiplayer where the bolts are too slow to do much of anything (except score you some really embarrassing kills against noobs).
