I definitely recognize this quote ("I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence") as a Bungie staple, but I have no idea where it's from. I thought it was the name of a sublevel from Halo 1... though the internet claims it was actually a sublevel in Halo 2.
According to here, it's a quote from Sgt. Johnson in Halo 1's "Attack on the Control Room".
The Marathon Story Page news for Oct 30, 2001 lists it amongst a pre-release list of Halo level names.
That's all I've got right now.
