| In Response To: What was the first time you saw/heard of Marathon? (Callie21V)
The original Zip drive came with a number of demos on the included disk, amongst which were Pathways Into Darkness and the then-new Marathon demo. I assumed Marathon was some kind of running game, but was absolutely enthralled by Pathways, and played it over and over and over again for what seemed like forever. I eventually bugged my mom to buy it for me, and while looking through a MacWarehouse catalog to order it realized that Marathon was by the same people and was an awesome sci-fi shooter game. They were out of stock of both PiD and Marathon by the time we ordered, but they let us know that Marathon 2 had just been announced and was available for pre-order. For some reason we didn't buy PiD, but we ordered both M1 and M2, both of which came in at about the time M2 was released, both of which I quickly devoured, after having played the Marathon demo ad nauseum in the meanwhile. I think I became involved in the Bungie Boards on AOL somewhere before actually acquiring the game, and from there discovered alt.games.marathon, and from there IRC #marathon, which eventually lead to the creation of #bungie and eventually Bungie.org...
