The Official Word from Fileball

I just received an email from the Battle Cat, for anyone who wants to see. It's the Official Word from Fileball:

Not hacked, server meltdown. Here is an email Frigidman sent to another inquirer and it explains it as well as I could so I’ll just copy and paste it here:

The server is still undergoing restore. Total meltdowns don’t make anyone
happy.

As for Fileball, it was a drain on the resources at hand with no
reimbursement for its needs, so is not a priority to restore at this time.

All the archives are safe for the moment on another server (ftp2). The
database was backed up a day before the meltdown. All web files sort of
exist on multiple machines in bits n pieces as it was never fully backed up
(all uploaded images were lost, as well as avatars).

It was an aging beast. Needed to be put down eventually, so maybe this
server heart attack was the thing to cause it. It will take a lot of time to
get Fileball working again as everything needs to be setup again ground up,
and tested to see if it even runs on the new OS that has been installed.

Worst comes to worse, I can post all the files in a ftp-only type format for
a limited time so those who wish can download what they want (or all of it)
However the posting of new files wont happen.

Sorry about this. It just isn’t a top priority right now, as all the paying
customer sites, and services on the server are first and foremost.

The Battle Cat will be informed of anything new I find out.

Feel free to pass this along to the Pfhorums, it’s the official word from Fileball. It would be a damn shame to lose the worlds single most complete archive of Marathon maps and files. Hopefully, if there is enough of a public outcry then maybe things will turn out better, but for now things look pretty grim.
