In Response To: Re: Western Mythology... (AfroRyan) : No...not really. I can see how Japanese or Chinese may see Christianity as
It is Western in the sense that it is not Eastern. Old Western mythology basically means Norse, Greek, Roman, etc. Christianity is a Western religion (mixed with some Eastern thought) and since it is prevalent in the "Western" world and has its own mythology, I consider it Western mythology. That being said, I have no sources to quote. That is just what I call it. It is not Eastern mythology, so I assume it is considered Western. Islamic, Christian, and Judaic mythology are strange because they are not Eastern, but they really do not fit well with the other Western. As for Western mythology referring to Native American mythology, I will be honest in that I have never heard the term used to exclusively mean the Americas. As you said, it is all relative. The problem is that the terms are all created in a world were the Old Americas were west, the Far East was east, and everything else was never given a direction. African mythology is... what? Southern?
