Nintendo didn't claim it was focused on "children," it claimed it was focused on a wider demographic. That can be easily interpreted to mean "mostly children," if you want to go down that route, but when you look at the game catalog for the Gamecube, it's not any more kid-oriented than any of the other consoles. People assume that, since Nintendo's primary franchises (Mario and Zelda) were more "kiddie," especially compared to several Sony and Microsoft franchises, that Nintendo mostly wants to focus on kids games.

Anyway, my point is, you're wrong. The Gamecube had fighting games, beat-em-ups, shoot-em-ups, first person shooters, and so forth. Just like the other consoles.
