In Response To: Re: Anybody tried it out yet? (goran) : And the bottomline is, despite grammar and simple design, it is extremly fun.
Yes, the maps are conceptually simple - but then again, he's essentially given us CoD/MoHAA in Marathon...it's not like you're romping around a baroquely designed alien space station constructed hundreds of thousands of years ago by beings of unimaginable power, so do they have to be architecturally complex? And yes, I'd love to harp on about the bad English (which I can forgive, since it seems like he's Italian), the terminal text is quite entertaining. I'd love to serve in a military where things can go so wrong, so badly and yet wind up with you getting a promotion. The weapons are really something else, too. Not since Chris Komarnicki's Killing Time demo have I seen "realistic" weaponry in a Marathon scenario. Though, if this takes place after Rubicon, one wonders why we haven't seen weapons like the Zeus variants and the Mercury rifle in wider use (perhaps costs are still prohibitively high?). What really gets me about this scenario is that it feels so much like I'm in a 1980's-style action movie - lots of ridiculous, balls-out over the top action with plenty of humans getting popped full of lead, and a whole lot of machine gun fire. No aliens (aside from the recognizable Pfhor), no surreal otherworldly enemies...just you, an automatic rifle, and a whole bunch of other dudes with automatic rifles. I really suggest people check this out. RX's Tycho Plank this ain't but it's still a whole lot of fun. PS: I reallly have to hand it to Kyle on the music and sound effects...anyone who can use "Take Five" (along with what I thought was a song from Sublime without the words) deserves my kudos.
