Thank you Frungi, you just summed up what I was trying to get across very nicely. I agree completely with what MrHen thinks an observer would observe while travelling time in one possible (and in my opinion, the only truly plausible) way that time travel could work, which is the way I've called "multilinear". The only disagreement seems to be what is metaphysically (for lack of a better word) necessary to posit beyond those observations in order to make sense of them.

To me, the only way to make sense of those observations is to posit that other timelines besides the one you happen to find yourself in exist, but previously-visited timelines are inaccessible to you via mere time travel (you would require some other sort of timeline-hopping device to access them), the same way that previously-visited times (the past) are inaccessible to us via mere space travel (you would require some sort of time machine to get to them).

In addition, I've claimed that time loops are *logically possible* (that is, there are no paradoxes or contradictions involved in them), but that they are highly implausible (requiring basically divine intervention to ever be set up in the first place).
