How to set up an Aleph One LAN game?

I played 2 Macs game back in the days of OS 9, with a direct Mac to Mac connection, but I can't do it. Right now, my 2 Macs are running OS X 10.4.8, and they are connected through this thing called a switcher that automagically knows what goes were. anyway I know the 2 Macs are connected because I CAN transfer files between them, but I just can't find a way to setup a LAN game. Not with Marathon, not with any game. I feel st00pid. Please help.
