In Response To: Re: Aleph One 0.17 preview 2 (thermoplyae) : Right, and 1.9 upgrades to 1.10. It's not a strict decimal system. From what I've seen there appear to be two types of version numbering schemes. One is Version.Update.Bugfix, where the numbers separated by the dots can be absolutely anything. This seems to be what AlephOne is following, where 0.9.0 is lower than 0.17.0. Another is Version.Update, including bugfixes in updates. Bugfixes increment by .01, more major updates increment to the next multiple of .1. In this scheme, 0.9 would be a higher version than 0.17. Of course, a lot of big commercial companies throw all this out the window, and every year or so release a package with all their updates and bugfixes and call it "NEW! Version X.0!", when point-oh numbers ought to be reserved for major architecture changes that may break backward compatibility or such.
