Eternal X Alpha 2
Posted By: Forrest of B.orgDate: 9/19/06 12:44 a.m.

Eternal X Alpha 2 is now available from the bottom of http://eternal.bungie.org/dev.php.

New features:
- All maps are now fully playable and feature-complete through to the end of Chapter 2.
- A completely redesigned and now fully-functional HUD.
- All monsters, sans the Enemy from Chapter 5, are now implemented and working.
- The Gravitronic Blades for Chapter 5 are now implemented.
- Various other minor tweaks, bugfixes, and improvements.

Known bugs:
- Chapters 3, 4, and 5 are still in various states of disrepair and reconstruction.
- Weapon-to-ammo conversion scripting is still a little bit weird.
- Some monster sounds don't work, for instance on Hulks and Ticks.
- Lookers don't explode when they reach you, though they try really hard to do so.
- Assorted non-critical level-specific glitches that I just discovered while playtesting this.

As the name implies, this is an alpha release. For those who have become confused by things like Google's use of "beta" for damn near every product they make, or those who just know nothing about development cycle terminology, "alpha" means a pre-release which is known to be not only buggy, but not even entirely feature complete. The purpose of an alpha release is to bring an entire project team in synch with the latest compilation of all the team members' works, and show off how far we've come. Since Eternal's dev process has an open-door policy, this means that you the public can also peek in on how far we've come along, and we'd appreciate your feedback, positive and negative.

The Xeventh Project (the Eternal X development team) will be releasing an alpha build each time a chapter becomes feature-complete. These builds are not yet converted to unimap format and are not guaranteed to work on any platform besides OSX - and even then I don't guarantee anything - but I'd like to know what users on other platforms can manage to do with this anyway.

Enjoy.

-Forrest Cameranesi
Director of the Xeventh Project
