Somewhat Belated Rubicon X Praise/Comments
Posted By: Keith PalmerDate: 8/26/06 11:25 a.m.

I've just finished playing my way through the "Tycho plank" of Rubicon X, and I am quite impressed. The original scenario was my single favourite third-party Marathon addon through a combination of story, map-making, and graphics, and the new maps do seem to live up to the old standard. At times I wondered if it seemed to be going by fast because Tycho was trying to accomplish a number of things, but this might not be a bad thing. I'm also pleased that the second ammo bar for the fusion rifle *finally* shows up in Aleph One...

However, there was a point or two that seemed odd to me, and I don't know if this was due to playing with the Intel-Mac SDL Aleph One. One of the background sounds seemed to have become corrupted; on some levels (including "Five Finger Discount" and "Utility Bills," if I remember their names correctly), I could hear a steady static roar at places on the map. Also, the "widevision" graphics got squashed back into one side of the terminal and were more or less illegible. Still, these are just quibbles. Now I suppose I'll have to experience the full "Pfhor plank" and "Salinger plank" all over again...
