In Response To: Re: Massive memory leak in Forge using Classic (Johannes Gunnar)

: in the classic preferences classic support is using 252/2026 kb and Forge is
: using 5.2/20.4 mb (i gave around 20 megs instead of 7 in the get info
: thingy)

: these numbers were gathered while running the marathon infinity map file in
: visual mode. running sigma forge on a few poly map gave me similar
: results.

: i'm gonna try trash the pref file (oh the good old trick)
: removing the RAM would be kind of hard because i'm in my apartment now and i
: got no tools here to open up the iBook. while i had them back home on the
: farm. (i was there few days ago)

: note: i also tried to run classic without extensions, it didn't do much. but
: i noticed today when i started to use forge that it "lagged"
: less but still used similiar amount of memory.

I've also given this a shot with minimal improvement in Forge's performance. I'm on a G4 iBook, 1.2 Ghz, 256 RAM, with Forge running on 7MB (haven't tried increasing it yet). I've also got version 1.0.3--hadn't noticed until now, I'll get the latest version and see if I still have the problems.

I get serious screen lag, jumpy views in visual mode, and crashes, crashes, crashes when I go over the "transparent polygon boundaries" limit in Forge. I know AO can handle any length of view, but if I can't build the map...

Most of my problems occur when I'm working on curved walls. I like to avoid a lot of straight edges and blocky architecture, but this ends up requiring more polys to avoid convex lines, etc.

What's been happening lately for you? Any improvements in how Forge works or are you still getting lag and crashes?
