Yes, as you jump over to that stairway that leads to the exit terminal, you want to make a VERY quick change of direction toward the alcove containing the shotgun shells right as you hit that small platform in front of the steps. You'll also need to hit your side-step key right at that moment. It takes some practice, but it's fairly easy once you get the hang of it.

It is possible to defeat that Projectile Fighter with one carefully aimed Shotgun blast. I have a film somewhere showing how it's possible. You have to be true on the first shot because if I recall, if you don't kill it on the first shot, the fighter never quite gets into full view for a second shot.
