: enough!

...

IRC was the first major internet chat system. All other chat systems are in the IRC tradition. IRC *is* traditional style chat, you can't get any more traditional.

: I want things to return to their old selves. And dieslflame tried

: aobut "marathon" instead? It makes a bit more sense doesnt it?

There used to be a #marathon on EFnet aeons ago... are you guys using EFnet, or some other network, or just some private server? #marathon was *the* place to chat about Marathon back in the day. Then it turned into a nasty clique. Some of us over at alt.games.marathon had a bit of a rivalry against them for a while.

: And also, you have to downlaod the whole stupid app just to go to a
: chatroom. AIM is far more conveinient and i've grown to like it.

That's only because you've already got an AIM client. Things were once upon a time that AIM was the weird new thing that nobody wanted to download cause IRC already did what they wanted. IRC isn't a program, it's a protocol that programs use to do chat (you've probably got IRCle or mIRC or something, but you can do it over plain telnet tooo), and isn't just for one stupid chat room. There's millions of them out there on a myriad of servers and networks. Granted, most of them are filled with abusive admins and stupid script kiddies who think they are 1337, but there's some good ones out there, I'm sure.
