No offense, but that is what your point in all of this is. 'Art' in any form is never the same for two people and just because you are chasing a particular end by analyzing Marathon it has no bearing on what anyone else does nor is it any more correct or more on the point*.
In any case, I prefer to take all of the facts we can glean from the terminals and then fill in the rest with good hypotheses. In the case of things that are just too far out there to 'know' than I love to keep guessing and wondering what the 'truth' is. I like to think of the Marathon universe as separate from the games and the games as a small picture of what that universe looks like.

So I think I agree with you more than disagree, but I just wanted to point out neither you nor I are more correct. We're all in this for our own reasons. :)
