Thanks for the reply - but I see no staircase!

I dealt with the ambush in the first room; hit the switch to enable the door switches, came out into the central room (dealing with another ambush); hit the only active switch which enabled the door switches to the north room; went into that room and dealt with the third ambush; hit the switch which enabled the rechargers and turned the lights on - but no further switches seem to have been activated, no doors opened, no staircases made visible...
