But if someone offers you advice and you : think "wtf how could anybody ever think that", and you can't : understand where they're coming from, then you've got a learning : experience available here. I really like everything you wrote in your post, especially the paragraph above. It all rings true in my ears. Here's my exact experience with this kind of thinking, which had led me to the conclusion to avoid unsolicited advice. A gives B unsolicited advice. And B ignore things he knows and limits his view to understand A. B decides to ignore A's advice. A, mistakes B's ignorance for stupidity, and tries yet again to give B advice, as he didn't understand the first time. B feels bad that the A tries to force his opinion on him. He's not really open to be persuaded on this. B tells A. Here's the thing, Im a grownup man, and I think I have the right to form my own opinions. When I want your input, I'll ask for it. A mistakes B's words for "B think my opinions are worth nothing, that I am stupid", A chooses to call B arrogant. B goes: I respect your right to be ignorant. If you're gonna keep this up you'll have to leave (or I will have to leave, depending on the situation). You're giving me negative energy. After many similar experiences B eventually goes, enough! Instead of ignoring them, it's better to show them right in their face what's really going on. If they don't understand, it's best to leave them alone, because then they're are in denial, and think they know "everything".
