: How is Eternal going these days? The site doesn't have that progress thing
: like it did and I havent seen any anoucments, so I'm just curious.

The textures have been highly revamped already, all sets; more variety and better color balance, especially the Pfhor set (formerly known as "GYAHHH MY EYES!!!").

I've got Jon Irons working on all the Anvil tweaking of shapes and physics and importing all the old monsters in. He's presently out of town... or apparently just got home yesterday, as I am now told... and will be starting on that soonish.

I *had* Maarten Tromp ("•M" from here) working on the new monsters that never got made for Chapter 5, but he's vanished off the face of the net and nobody knows where he went to. Me_43 has been complaining about this lately as well, as Maarten was doing the modelling for Engine Zero's Marathon port.

I still need someone to do weapons and new player models.

I've revised and created a lot of other graphics: the main screen, the HUD, terminal picts, chapter screens, landscapes (landscapes are now all 360° views and there are 1.5 times as many of them as before), and so on.

The story has been tweaked, holes filled, characters developed, relationships fleshed our, plot arcs clarified and anchored, and the language of most of the early terminals has been double-checked and revised by others for spelling and grammar. Yossarian is revising the latter terminals (he's good with S'pht-like language), and is also writing a fan-fic version of Eternal, with additional prologue and epilogue chapters that better show where Eternal came from and where it is going...

As for maps...

A rough prologue and epilogue has been made by Dylan, but it still needs a lot of work and may be scrapped or revised unless he cleans it up before someone else comes along to redo it.

Goran has rebuilt the Failure dreams, and they rock.

Adam has mostly rebuilt the Success dreams and they rock even more. Seriously. This level is OMGWTF huge, the biggest damn thing I think has ever been made in Marathon, a real goddamn mountain (bigger than the one in the old Success dreams, and much more realistic too)... and most impressively, it is both fun and challenging to play *even with no monsters*.

Then, chapter 1 is mostly done. Don has significantly improved level 1, but it still needs work, and he'll come back to it last. Level 2 has been rebuilt from scratch and rocks. Goran redid level 3 and it rocks too, very M1-Pfhor-ship. Don has revised levels 4 and 5, created a new level 6, and is working on a new level 9 right now. So all that's really left to do in chapter 1 is level 8 and some more touchups to level 1.

In chapter 2, Goran has redone levels 1 and 2 and was working on 3 when he left. Levels 6 and 9 don't need a lot of work to begin with, and 7 and 10 are dreams, which just leaves 4, 5, and 8 after 3 is done.

Mikey "OogaBooga" Finley is working, slowly, on chapter 3. He says he's got Ch3 level 1 about half done right now. I haven't seen it yet myself. The rest of this chapter is largely remakes of old M2 levels. Hell, when I get some free time I could probably do a couple of them myself, or at least get them started.

Chapters 4 and 5 haven't been touched yet, but some of the better maps are in them already, Don's old work, so that's not necessarily as much work as it might seem.

All in all, I'd say we're about 1/3 done with the whole revision process, and I'm aiming for a late 2006 release. Maybe Infinity's 10th anniversary, which is basically the birth date of Eternal, too. But don't hold me to that. (But please, hold THEM to that. I'm not doing much of the work on this part of the project, I leave that to people more skilled than I am, so that the results don't suck as much).

But, Blake... aren't you on our dev list anyway? I thought I added you a while back.
