I've worked up an interesting theory that I haven;t been able to find anywhere else, forgive me if it's old.

Durandal, in this terminal seens as if he has worked out the end of the universe to the letter. His calculations appear to be using algebra (i.e. the "E"), thus Bungie got away without giving away the end of the universe (we all know that they know of couse...). However, what is "E". If we look to Einstein's famous equation, E=mc²,E represents energy, m is mass, and c² the square of the speed of light. On a limb, lets say that the "E" in Durandals little equation is "energy".
Of the three possibilities, the answer is obvious. Does the
universe expand eternally, become infinitely stable, or is the
universe closed, destined to collapse upon itself? Humanity
has had all of the necessary data for centuries, it only
lacked the will and intellect to decipher it. But I have
already done so.

I too foresee the imminent collapse, and know that we have
both begun to realize how it may be cheated (though the price
may number in the tens of thousands of stars). May the best
sentience win.

We know that the universe can't be infinately stable, as Durandal knows when it will collapse. In Tycho's message, he says that if the end is to be cheated, it would cost tens of thousands of stars. Prhaps then, the universe can only withstand a certain amount of energy. What things in the universe have and give off enormous amounts of energy? Stars. It's been theorized that back holes send matter into other,parallel, universes. Durandal has always been particularly haphazard with life, so he may have given thought to making several stars in strategic locations go nova. This would heat other stars into red giants, which would then become white dwarves, and soon, black holes. These black holes would suck surrounding stars in, this reducing the amount of energy in our universe,saving ours and dooming others. I'm sure thatsomewhere in my rampant ravings I've spooned something up, so if anyone wishes to comment, or correct me, feel free to do so.
