You should try VLC, you can find it on Versiontracker.com. It supports just about every video format out there, including WMV. And so it pretty much saved my life, because i couldn't stand to use WMV either. I think there are some good solutions for REAL too, just look around places with lots of freeware like Versiontracker and Apple's Mac OS X downloads page.
