: I can see your point, but while PDW's tend to have the more powerful rounds,
: they are generally smaller calibre in the range of 4.5 to 7 mm, they are
: also typically automatic. The magnum round will travel farther, but
: without that scope they're not really ideal long range combat weapons.
: Your .44 magnum Desert Eagle is going to hold eight rounds, which is
: plenty for a hand cannon like that, but as a sidearm for someone not used
: to regular combat I'd hand out a true PDW like the HK HP5, or a regular
: handgun chambered in the easier-to-shoot .40 or 9mm with 15-16 round
: capacity. I'm not suggesting you throw out the handgun for Redemption, I'm
: merely questioning the necessities behind the design. Plus it WOULD be
: heresy not to start with a magnum, though if you didn't you wouldn't be
: the first...

: Granted this is the 29th century and the requirements of combat have
: undoubtedly changed, but armour-piercing rounds are typically found in
: rifles. But I can understand that under certain production circumstances
: when only one type of waepon can be made for mass distribution, it is
: easier to make one gun and then several ammo variants for it.

The more I think about it, the more inclined I am to swap the Zip and magnum. The Zip would become the starting weapon while the magnum, with scope reinstalled, would become a weapon issued to special ops personnel for taking down large targets.

: Yeah, the Jackhammer is a beast. The only shotgun I had was a 12-gauge and
: I've never fired a .410 before, but I think this is generally a
: squirrel-hunting round. Going by gauges, I think the .410 is something
: like 60 gauge, so if you're going for a round that is small enough to
: increase capacity but still has huevos, I'd suggest a 28 or 32 gauge
: shell. Plus something as small as the .410 would make being able to change
: the load in-barrel rather moot because you can only pack so many 00 buck
: shots into a .410 shell.

: The Jackhammer will pour out about four rounds a second but the standard mag
: holds only 10, though it is a 12-gauge.

I might stick with 12-gauge.

: Can't go wrong with that old NATO issue stuff. If you use a FAMAS design, I'd
: suggest dropping that horrbily ugly handle/sight thing it's got on top.
: The FAMAS might get the job done but it sure is ugly.

I was thinking it should retain a sight rail / carry handle of some sort, but not a FAMAS-type. I always thought the M-41A had a pretty good shape; maybe it could look like that?

: I think this is closer to the PDW concept than the magnum, but like all
: weapons they all have their various applications.

As stated above, I think I'll have this trade places with the magnum.

: Here's my personal anti-Pfhor weapon (no, not the folding chair):

An AK-10x fitted with a scope and an M4 stock. Is that for real?
