Durandal and Bernard

Durandal and Bernard

I'm sure this has been asked before, but its been so long since I've been to the forums so please forgive. I was wondering what everyone thought about Durandal's intent when he wants the player to find Bernard on the alien ship in Marathon. We know that Tycho claims that Durandal was "abusing" Durandal so was Durandal searching for Bernard to kill/torture him? I always thought that Durandal always had some strange loyalty towards Bernard and as obsurd as it might sound, I almost think perhaps he looked at Bernard as being his master, despite Durandal's rather egotistic personality. On the other hand, when Durandal finds out that Bernard is likely to be enslaved perhaps he feels this is punishment enough if he truly sought revenge. Just a thought...
