: But if Leela herself is Rampant, which is always a question when it comes to
: any computer(my desktop being a major suspect :-p), why is she being such
: a good girl? She did her best to bring the Marathon back to normal system
: functioning. Would a Rampant AI do that? She might have been different
: from Durandal in that she came to accept her "slavery," while
: Durandal resisted it. I only mention that because I have a computer in my
: story who deals with being a tool of humans by believing it is his only
: purpose in life; Leela might be the same way.

That would explain Durandal's rant about her on The Rose:

i hate leela and her goodness her justice her loyalty her faith.

If Leela went rampant and stayed helpful to humans, it would tick off Durandal who can't fathom helping his captors.

On the other hand, I do remember something of a mention about what happened when Leela did go rampant. She took down a whole network on an alien world, but I don't remember where I found that.

Or maybe it was over there...

Thinking the cargo little more than scrap, the Nar captain sold the Pfhor ship, Leela and all, to a Vylae merchant. The subsequent crash of the Vylae FTL network when Leela was reassembled and reactivated is still legendary in the annals of rampancy, and the Vylae have long since accepted that they will never expunge her from their fifteen-world network.

Right, that was it. And it doesn't say she became rampant, but rather that she just crashed the network. Good ol' Leela.

However, I'm still skeptical about Leela already being rampant.

i rebel against your rules your silly human rules.
