I have some bad news: Durandal has gone Rampant, and he is in
the Angry stage. This explains how Durandal was able to
communicate with the Pfhor and the S'pht, while I have not.
Theoretically, the Marathon Computer Net is not big enough to
sustain Rampant growth for very long. This means that as
Durandal grows into the Computer Net, he will begin to affect
all aspects of the ship, resulting in unpredictable failures
of otherwise benign computer systems.
In Tycho's message he wanted to tell Leela about Durandal. Either Tycho succeeded in telling Leela or Leela just noticed Tycho was a~*ssimilated.
And then we get Durandal saying:
Here I am, sulking about on a ship which used to be my slave.
Chased by a narrow-minded AI who thinks I'm rampant with only
the cybernetic toys of these so-called invaders to play with.
Is it safe to assume Durandal is talking about Leela by narrow-minded AI, but why is I'm in italics? Is someone else rampant?
Do we have any evidence whatsoever of what an AI feels while it enters rampancy? How long does it take?
Like being a~*ssimilated, perhaps?
I would say doubtful. More than likely Tycho's assimilation is merely Durandal spreading himself over what little network he can.
This would explain Leela's comment about Durandal[Tycho].
Perhaps the @``~~C#mon#`~ Tyc~~B`` bit is actually Tycho doing what little he can while under Durandal's control.
But what is really bugging me is why did Durandal acted so surprised when he was called rampant...

They are Melancholia, Anger, and Jealousy.
