In Response To: Question? (Andromeda_5[Kilo])

: At the end of Aye Mak Sicur (sp?) Durandal says that the nova from the Tri
: Xeem is contained and that the W'rkecacnter are either dormant or a myth.

: If that's correct, then what was the point of all the stuff you did in
: Infinity? To simply contain the nova triggered by the Tri Xeem ? I
: wouldn't think so, because Lh'owon was destroyed anyway.

: It seemed like all you ever did was to bring in K'lia and S'buth. Who didn't
: turn out to be much of a help.

: can somebody answer this? Just what did happen in Infinity?

: Forgive my rantings, I have a very weak grasp on the intricacies of the
: Infinity storyline.

In the Prologue of Infinity (Ne Cede Malis), Durandal speaks of a "chaos" which has been released as a result of the Pfhor activating the tri xeem after Marathon 2 - which is pretty much undeniably the W'rkncacnter, creatures of pure chaos. Whether they exist in the final "successful" timeline which you follow in Infinity - the one that leads to Aye Mak Sicur, is less clear. I've always thought that the W'rkncacnter existed across all possible timelines, since they seem to have originated near or even at the very beginning of the Universe. Another possibility is that the timelines you follow only branch off from the time between Marathon and Marathon 2, so that the W'rkncacnter exist within all of the relevant timelines you encounter.

It is possible that the W'rkncacnter don't actually exist within the final reality of Infinity, but I would disagree. It's probable that Durandal doesn't really know what to expect to find within the sun, so he can't detect the W'rkncacnter, or that they really are dormant - it could feasibly take something as catastrophic as a successful supernova occuring in Lh'owon's sun for them to be awoken. I'd also think that the Jjaro and Thoth would be smarter than sending you off trying to change the course of history when you could just skip through timelines until you find one in which there are no W'rkncacnter.

Believing that I pretty much single-handedly saved the Universe, despite the meddling of two insane AIs and an amusingly bureaucratic alien slaver collective is also a slightly cooler scenario to believe, in any case. :)
