In Response To: Re: PC Data files (Jorge)

: Ugh. There's so many copyright violations at that website it makes your head
: spin. From the look of it, that site has been there for a while, and M2
: and M3 were released freely when by Bungie?

: This line is the one that gets me the most: "Marathon, Marathon 2:
: Durandal & Marathon Infinity are free-source game applications and
: therefore are allowed to be freely distributed and altered. Infact, it's
: encouraged."

Hmm, very true - I've never read the content of the site, I've only posted it as it contains the datafiles. I assumed it was OK as I got the link of a bungie.net forum moderator a day or two ago.

: As much as we all would love for this to be the case, before yesterday, that
: statement is the kind of thing that makes game companies NEVER want to
: release anything to the public. In fact, it is still erroneous, as all the
: content is STILL copyright by Bungie. Somebody please remove the link to
: that website before Bungie changes their mind.

Fair enough. I figured it would be useful for people to get the data in a format that is readable on windows. Since you have pointed out the content of the page, and are in the process of providing a better solution I'd be happy to remove it if I could edit my post...

: Also, it is not necessary to have a seperate resource fork on the PC. All you
: have to do is MacBinary the map file and move it to a PC. Reduces clutter.

I didn't know that. I've always assumed that the only way to get the files with resource forks to be useable under windows was to seperate them as per the INSALL instructions. You live and learn :)
