In Response To: Re: Halo Movie -- Already Announced? ARGH!! (Facultas Tempestas) : If it was a bad movie, that means they didn't care about commercializing and
The quality of the movie would simply be a reflection of the skill and talent (and resources, and dedication) of the film company making the movie. NOTHING ELSE. : Look at Dune. People who read the books loved it. WHAT? I read the Dune books, and loved them, but that foetid turd of a movie nearly made me return my popcorn. Partially digested. I was far from alone. I think your "fond childhood memories" are seen through the thick gel of nostalgia, lad. Now, the miniseries put out by SciFi was damned good, so I know that it can be done well, but that David Lynch / Sting colaboration was a waste of money, time, effort, acting talent, and precious bodily fluids. Which is neither here nor there. Neither film makes a statement about whether or not the Herbert family "sold out". : If its a good movie, that means that they were really looking for
And that is bad because...? Look, popularity is NOT a contra-indication for worth. Sometimes the unwashed masses slip up and respect people worthy of that respect; Shakespere, Beethoven, Mozart, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Hitchcock were all POPULAR successes before their works got coopted into "high ahht". Judge the works by their merits, not by their popularity. And CERTAINLY not before release and viewing. : If my mom knows Halo's storyline, then someone's sold out. Oh, your Mom knows Halo's storyline alright. I taught it to her. (And a few other things, too...) -- Steve respects Bungie tradition almost as much as critical thought, and hopes you do too. |
