Solomonic Gold in PiD?

It's a stretch (but then, since when was that about to stop someone suggesting something?) but perhaps Muller wanted the Gold in PiD because it was Solomonic Gold (read, for example, Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle, for more on this)?
The gold which King Solomon was alleged to have made was ascribed various mystical properties by alchemists, and so is the kind of thing which you might expect to find in a labyrinth built on top of a sleeping ancient evil...
