Song of Roland anyone?

"Discuss the perception of Muslims (Saracens) in the "Song of Roland"

Yes, it's essay time for Blayne. Since I've never actually read The Song of Roland" (even with it's Marathonian connections) - I'm asking the forum patrons for their advice. Anyone know any good scholarly articles that can help me get my head around the proper way to analyze such a historical piece?

I would have rather opted for an essay on the analysis of the swords mentioned in the 'song' - but anyhow: Links to things, or your own recollections would be a great help.

Besides: The faster I get this essay out of the way, the faster I get back to Where Monsters are in Dreams. :)

Thanks in advance,
-Blayne
