In Response To: Eternal Textures (Dylan)

: Is it just me or are the eternal textures really boring. They are just pipes
: and tiles. They different texture sets are all the same. By which I mean
: pipes and tiles. The L'ho'won set looks more like the Marathon than
: L'ho'won. Maybe this is just me if so say so, but I would like to know
: what other people think.

I've already talked to Dylan about this separately but I just thought I'd reiterate it hear in more detail in case anybody cares:

There are plans to, eventually, overhaul Eternal's textures majorly, but in such a way that will not require (significant) retexturing of anything. All the horizontal "pipe" textures, since they already don't tile with anything else, will be made into much more detailed wall/hallway textures. There will be two more variants of each type of "widget", one per material type, so, for example, the "vertical" widget may be just a groove in the wall for the first material type, a set of pipes in the second, and some sort of wiring conduit in the third. This will give a total of 24 "unique" textures and five color variations of each, plus the 10 special textures (chargers, switches, terms, doors, windows, media), in each set.

I also intend to introduce more color variation within the individual textures, as I did with the "pipes" in the Pfhor set. I'll probably fine-tune the materials a good bit as well, to make sure they're as nice as possible. If Mark's additions to AO ever get rolled into the main distro, or I somehow get them rolled into an Eternal-specific distro, then I'll be adding detail textures, which would be very nice to have. I also intend, as Steve L suggested, to vary the switches around in each set, instead of just using the same basic design with different colors and materials. And yes Steve, someday the Set 4 (Marathon) terminals and such will use metal instead of concrete for their major surfaces.

Just lettin' y'all know the plans, and reminding you that this is still a work in progress...
